Gilson Clemente has graduated in Physical Education in 1992 at the University of Santo Amaro, in São Paulo, Brazil. Since then, he has dedicated his effort to developing Powerlifting in Brazil and to helping low-income children succeed though sport in general. He has been a Physical Education K-12 teacher for 10 years, most of which at Paraisópolis, a very low-income neighborhood in São Paulo. He has also participated in the setting-up of the organizational structure for Powerlifting in Brazil, through the Federação Paulista de Powerlifting (São Paulo Powerlifting Federation) and Confederação Brasileira de Levantamentos Básicos (Brazilian Powerlifting Federation), where he is the technical director. Presently, Gilson Clemente owns GCA gym (Gilson Clemente Academia), where he serves the local Paraisópolis population and also trains his powerlifting team, mostly composed by low-income residents at Paraisópolis.
